One thing to know about property: since 17 January 2026 this ground only works if the tax base of the property is €150,000 or more; anyone who obtained a boravak before that date renews under the earlier rules.
- Means of subsistence — €20 for every day of the stay applied for (about €7,300 for a year). A close family member of a Montenegrin citizen does not have to prove income at all.

The legal basis is Montenegro’s Zakon o strancima (Sl. list CG 12/2018 as amended; the latest overhaul, Sl. list CG 3/2026, applies from 17 January 2026); the official texts are published by the Službeni list Crne Gore. Applications are filed with, and decided by, the Montenegrin Ministry of the Interior. - Do I need a visa to enter Montenegro? For a short trip, Russian citizens do not need a visa: you arrive, and we organize the on-site filing, guiding you every step of the way.
- What will serve as the basis for the residence permit? There are several options — your own company, employment, remote work, real estate. Since 17 January 2026 property only qualifies if its tax base is €150,000 or more, and renewal now runs on the same ground the status was granted on. We select the right basis for your situation during a free assessment.
- How long is the decision? 40 days from a complete filing for temporary residence, and 20 days for a residence-and-work permit. A renewal application is filed in person no later than 30 days before the status expires.
- What about the digital nomad term? That is a separate ground: the nomad boravak is issued for up to 2 years and can be renewed for up to 2 more. Once the term is used up, a new nomad permit is available only after a 6-month gap.
- Is the residence permit renewable? Yes, the boravak is issued for 1 year and is renewable as long as the underlying basis is maintained. We handle the renewal as well.
