In Italy the visa and the permit are two separate steps with a hard deadline
The Italian route differs from the Spanish one: first the consulate issues the visa under the Testo unico (D.Lgs 286/1998), and after entry you have 8 days to file the permesso di soggiorno package through the post office and attend an appointment at the questura. - Elective residence for the financially independent: stable passive income of roughly €31,000 per year per applicant (not from employment), higher amounts for a spouse and children, and confirmed accommodation in Italy.
- Digital nomad: income of roughly €28,000 per year, at least six months of remote work or freelance experience, professional qualifications, health insurance with coverage of at least €30,000, and a residential address.
- Common to all grounds: a valid passport, criminal record certificate, health insurance, proof of accommodation, and documents legalised with an apostille and a sworn translation into Italian.
- After entry: the permesso di soggiorno application must be filed within eight days — via a postal kit and then at the questura. This deadline cannot be missed, which is why we prepare the kit in advance.
